COVID-19 Updates

Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Information

During the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine trial, three participants with facial filler injections experienced mild, temporary swelling in the area of their facial fillers after vaccination.

Two patients had cheek filler injections six months prior to the vaccination, while the third received lip injections two days after their vaccine. For all three participants, the mild reactions were temporary and quickly resolved either without intervention or with a simple treatment of steroids and/or anti-histamines. In the patient with lip injections two days after vaccination, it is unclear whether the response was the result of the vaccine or simply the normal swelling after filler injection.

While dermal filler patients should be aware of the possibility of a localized inflammatory response to the Moderna vaccine, the cases are rare and the effects quickly resolve.

Both Doctors Michelle and Ben Bassichis were recently vaccinated with the Moderna vaccine, even as Dr. Michelle previously received facial filler injections. We strongly believe vaccination is extremely important. The risks associated with the COVID-19 vaccine have thus far proven to be very low and do not justify delaying or declining the vaccine.

If you have any concerns about being vaccinated because you have had filler, consider taking an antihistamine, such as Zyrtec or Allegra, the day before and the day of your vaccine.

We invite you to call our office at (972) 774-1777 for clinical guidance if you have any questions regarding facial fillers and COVID-19 vaccination.

It is always our pleasure to take wonderful care of your health at the office of Dr. Benjamin Bassichis and the Advanced Facial Plastic Surgery Center.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols

At Advanced Facial Plastic Surgery Center, there is no higher priority than your well-being and the greater health of our community.  We have implemented the following protocols to ensure that our patients and staff are as safe as possible while visiting our office.

PRE-APPOINTMENT SCREENING

• One week prior to your appointment, please begin to self-monitor at home by taking your temperature and monitoring for cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, or flu-like symptoms.
• Two days prior to your appointment you will receive a confirmation text message for your appointment with a link to complete screening questions about your general health and exposure.  Please notify the facility if your answer is “yes” to any of the listed screening questions, or for any changes in your general health. Please remain socially distant or avoid anyone who has recently traveled, had flu-like symptoms, or has tested positive for coronavirus.
• If you develop a fever or flu-like symptoms, please call the office at your earliest convenience at (972) 774-1777 to reschedule your appointment after a healthy interval.
IN-OFFICE SAFETY PROTOCOL
• For the safety of our patients and visitors, wearing a mask or face covering is required in accordance with Texas Medical Association guidelines.
• When you enter the office, you will be greeted by a staff member at the front desk who will take your temperature, confirm that you are wearing a mask or facial covering, and provide hand sanitizer for you to clean your hands.
• We request that NO GUESTS accompany you to your appointment. Patients who are minors or require assistance may have one (1) guardian accompany them to their appointment. We ask that guardians please wear a mask and follow all safety protocols listed above.
COVID-19 TESTING FOR MEDICAL SPA PATIENTS
• We ask that Medical Spa & Laser patients who will be spending an extended amount of time in our treatment rooms take a COVID-19 Rapid Finger Stick Test prior to their appointment.
• COVID-19 Tests are covered by most insurance providers with no out-of-pocket cost to the patient. The test is $95 for patients who have United Health Care or do not have health insurance.
• Once you enter the office and check-in at the front desk, your aesthetician will take your temperature, confirm that you are wearing a mask or facial covering, and administer your mandatory Finger Stick COVID-19 Antibody Test requiring only one drop of blood.
• While the test is incubating, we ask that return to your vehicle for a 15-minute waiting period. Your aesthetician will call you as soon as the results are available. If your test results as ‘NEGATIVE’, you will be permitted to attend your appointment.  If your test results as ‘POSITIVE’ for COVID19 antibodies, we will reschedule your appointment.
• For the utmost safety of all, we require all non-patient visitors to remain in their cars as additional guests are not permitted in the office at this time.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation during this time. We appreciate your patience if there are delays in your appointment, as we are taking extra precautions and time to keep you safe. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to the office to care for your facial health.
Your health and wellness are our top priority and it is always our honor to take wonderful care of you,
