Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty is a procedure performed to repair or change a previous rhinoplasty procedure. There are two types of dissatisfaction that may result in revision: functional problems hindering breathing and aesthetic problems relating to appearance, or a combination of both. As revision rhinoplasty procedures are significantly more complicated than original rhinoplasties, it is very important that you seek a surgeon with specific expertise and training in revision rhinoplasty. As a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon and a Board Certified Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck Surgeon, Dr. Bassichis has the unique ability to improve the appearance of the nose while simultaneously improving its breathing function.

Revision rhinoplasty procedures performed to correct nasal function may be covered by insurance, while those performed solely for cosmetic purposes are typically not covered by insurance.

Aesthetic complications of rhinoplasty can include noses that are too short, too long, too narrow, too wide, twisted, etc. Being displeased with your primary rhinoplasty can be a very diffucult experience. Some patients are frustrated, angry, and even a little scared. Dr. Bassichis understands this and will take the time to listen to your concerns and help you achieve a successful outcome from your revision surgery. Dr. Bassichis can provide an honest analysis and opinion regarding what you can expect from your Revision surgery.

We utilize computer imaging to help visualize and communicate surgical outcomes. It is important for the surgeon to know what the patient wants to accomplish, and the patient must know what the surgeon envisions as a goal for the surgical result. Computer imaging is an extremely useful method for the surgeon and patient to convene and align their thinking about the procedure. Dr. Bassichis performs computer imaging on virtually all patients prior to surgery.

Good candidates for revision rhinoplasty include men and women who are physically healthy, have realistic expectations and are unhappy with the function or the appearance of their nose after a rhinoplasty procedure. Patients should wait at least six months to a year after their original procedure because post-surgical swelling can affect the final results.

Dr. Bassichis perfomed his subspecialty fellowship training with one of the world's most respected and foremost Revision Rhinoplasty surgeons, Dr. Dean Toriumi of the University of Illinois at Chicago. This training in the most delicate techniques of revision surgery and his extensive clinical experience performing many primary and revision nasal surgeries, make Dr. Bassichis uniquely qualified for performing revision surgeries.
