Skin Resurfacing
Skin resurfacing combines art and science to achieve beautiful rejuvenated skin. As there are hundreds of methods for performing skin resurfacing, Dr. Bassichis can customize a protocol based on your aesthetic desires, recovery time, and skin type to reverse years of sun damage, skin wrinkles, acne and age spots in a matter of days.

Removing skin layers to reduce wrinkles or irregularities is an effective way to regain smoother, more youthful looking skin. Skin resurfacing can effectively treat conditions including wrinkled or sun damaged skin, brown spots, blotchy skin, fine wrinkles on the upper eyelid, superficial acne or other facial scars, certain skin growths, vertical wrinkles around your mouth ("smokers lines"), and crows feet.

Some of the traditional methods used in skin resurfacing are dermabrasion (scraping layers away), chemical peels, and laser peels (vaporizing skin with a laser). All these procedures are designed to remove the superficial layer of skin (the epidermis), and penetrate the deep skin layer (the dermis). As healing progresses, new collagen is formed in the dermis and a new epidermis with fewer wrinkles and improved skin texture is formed.
Recovery after skin resurfacing depends on the depth of penetration. Superficial chemical peels remove only the top layers of skin, and will heal in about a week. Deeper peeling agents provide more dramatic and longer lasting results. Because of their deeper skin injury, they take several weeks to heal. The best resurfacing treatment for you can only be determined by an individual consultation with Dr. Bassichis.

Expectations with any resurfacing procedure must be realistic. Skin resurfacing procedures cannot produce perfect skin or completely eliminate scars. Rather, the goal is to improve the appearance of the skin as much as possible. Bear in mind that no resurfacing technique will correct sagging skin or halt the aging process. Furthermore, you must make a commitment to use sunscreen to protect your freshly resurfaced complexion. However, with the correct technique for the correct patient, skin resurfacing can produce wonderful rejuvenating results.

The recipient of the prestigious American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery's John Orlando Roe Award for his cutting edge research on skin rejuvenation techniques, Dr. Bassichis remains committed to refining the art and science of skin care.
