During laser resurfacing a specialized beam of light energy is used to remove the top layers of skin. The laser can be used to resurface facial wrinkles caused by excess sun exposure, the aging process, crow's feet, and acne scarring to minimize the appearance of facial lines, especially around the mouth and eyes. It is also effective in treating facial scars or areas of uneven pigmentation. Laser resurfacing may be performed on the whole face or in specific regions with depth penetration that can be precisely varied by the laser.
