What exactly is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX®Cosmetic is a natural, purified protein, which in very low doses relaxes the overactive muscles that cause frown lines to form. Treatment is simple and nonsurgical and smoothes the deep, persistent lines between your brows that developed over time. Movement of facial muscles can cause the skin between the brows to crease. As skin becomes less elastic over time, repeated frowning may create visible lines and wrinkles-even when your face is relaxed.

Is it BOTOX® safe?
BOTOX® has been safely used to treat a variety of conditions for more than 25 years including non-cosmetic problems (such as headaches/migranes, sweating, muscle spasm, eye spasms, vocal cord spasm etc) as well as cosmetic uses. More than 1 million patients worldwide have undergone cosmetic treatment with BOTOX® to treat wrinkles. It is FDA-approved as BOTOX®Cosmetic for the temporary of wrinkles between the eyebrows or frown lines (glabellar region) in people aged 18 to 65. Manufactured by Allergan, BOTOX®Cosmetic is the only FDA-approved version for use in the United States, and Dr. Bassichis uses ONLY the Allergan product.

Where does the BOTOX® go?
It generally remains only in the treated muscle and gradually disappears without breaking down or traveling throughout the body. BOTOX® is not expected to be present in the blood stream at measurable levels following local injection at the recommended doses.

How long can I be treated with BOTOX®?
Each treatment typically lasts 4 months, after which lines gradually revert to their pretreatment appearance. At that time another BOTOX®Cosmetic treatment can be performed.

Do BOTOX® injections hurt?
Dr. Bassichis uses the smallest gage needles and special techniques to minimize the discomfort of the treatment. Our patients are pleasantly surprised by how minimal the discomfort is. In fact some patients say they didn't feel it at all!

Are the "Better than BOTOX®" products really Better than BOTOX®?
There are a lot of advertisements and product claims in the media that are quite misleading. Currently, there is no topical skin product that is "better than BOTOX®". BOTOX® and skin treatments are very different, but can work together to achieve wonderful additive results. BOTOX® relaxes your face and helps limit wrinkles with facial movement, while skin products treat topical skin wrinkles and irregularities. Together they can have simultaneously rejuvenating effects.

Will BOTOX® radically change my appearance?
No. But you can expect a dramatic improvement in the appearance of your frown lines. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of the men and women surveyed rated the improvement in their brow lines as moderate to better. Overall, you'll look more relaxed and refreshed but not like "you've had work done."

Will it make me lose expression?

What can I expect from my BOTOX® treatment?
Dr. Bassichis will determine exactly where to administer several tiny injections to achieve the best results for you. No anesthesia is required, although he may numb the area with a cold pack before and after treatment. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes. Discomfort is minimal and brief-our patients compare the sensation to a bug bite. The neutral pH of the injected solution, in combination with the extremely fine-gauge needle Dr. Bassichis uses, can help minimize any injection-related discomfort. Most people return to work or normal activity immediately.
