Evolving_Facelift

Remember back when facial plastic surgeons relied only on surgery only to rejuvenate patients’ faces?  So much has changed with innovatively combining facelift, laser other surgeries with nonsurgical approaches and skin care to enhance outcomes. He says the modern-day facial rejuvenation “package” approach improves and prolongs patient results and enhances safety and satisfaction.

Today, facial rejuvenation patients see Dr. Bassichis for surgical consultations, but also see the licensed clinical aestheticians at the ADVANCED Medi.SPA who recommend nonsurgical options for improving skin elasticity, skin tone and more before surgery. Not only do patients come to the operating room with healthier skin, but they’re also better educated about how to keep their skin looking good. There is a focus on skin health including sun blocks, antioxidant and moisturizers that enhance the overall, long-term result. Dr. Bassichis also combines techniques and technologies that improve post-surgical bruising and swelling such as lymphatic drainage massage and oral supplements. This evolved facelift provides the beautiful, natural results that Dallas and national patients come to seek from Dr. Bassichis.

Beautifully yours,

Drs. Michelle and Benjamin Bassichis

Are you having trouble getting your teenager to wear sunscreen?

A recent study showed that vanity works better than fear in getting adolescents to use sunscreen.

Patients watched one of two videos promoting sunscreen use among adolescents. One video emphasized the premature aging effects of UV light on skin appearance. The other video focused on the relationship between UV light and skin cancer.

Six weeks later, sunscreen use had increased significantly in the appearance-video group but not in the health-video group. The appearance video delivered messages such as, “Skin damage can show up as wrinkles, dark spots, uneven skin tone, sagging skin, and rough leathery skin.” Patients learned that UVA light from the sun causes the skin damage that makes skin look older and “less attractive.” The video warned, “When you go out in the sun without sunscreen, you’re causing your skin to age faster, which might make you look older than you really are.”

The health video asked, “Did you know that having one bad sunburn in your life increases your chances of getting melanoma?” It explained that melanoma, the deadliest of skin cancers, can happen to anyone and is one of the most common cancers in young adults “like you.” Even though it’s less common in African Americans, it can happen and usually is deadly because it’s usually found too late, the video said. As melanoma “gets worse, it can spread to other organs in your body, like your liver, lungs, and brain. When it’s found too late, melanoma can kill you,” the video added.

Perhaps this would be an effective way to approach adolescents who don’t want to wear sunscreen…and perhaps some adults too!

Beautifully yours,

Latisse may be the best holiday gift ever, but the big question is……DOES IT REALLY WORK?

THE ANSWER? OH YES IT DOES!

Is it possible to have longer and more beautiful eyelashes without extensions? With Latisse, the answer is Yes Yes Yes. Latisse eyelash therapy is the first and only prescription treatment FDA-approved to grow eyelashes longer, fuller and darker. The ADVANCED FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY CENTER is pleased to offer prescriptions for Latisse which lengthens, thickens and darkens eyelashes. Latisse is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat hypotrichosis which is the medical term for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes. In fact, we often prescribe Latisse for patients whose eyelashes have fallen out from using eyelash extensions or even chemotherapy.

The active ingredient in Latisse is bimatoprost, a medical compound involved in the health, development and re-growth of hair follicles. When dabbed daily on the lash line of the upper eyelids, our patients grow their own stunningly lush and healthy lashes as the result. Please call our office for a consultation with Dr. Bassichis to see if a prescription for Latisse is right for you! ?

Next time you are at ADVANCED, check out the fabulous fringe our office staff are enjoying….it’s lash-o-licious! ;)?

Any cosmetic procedure or facial surgery includes the potential risk of swelling. To minimize swelling and optimize your healing, we often recommend a wonderful treatment called Lymphatic Massage.

At the hands of our expertly trained aesthetic professionals, lymphatic massage is a technique used to optimize the healing power of your own body. The use of massage as a healing therapy dates back centuries and is extremely popular in Europe.  Lymphatic massage utilizes light pressure with long, rhythmic strokes to increase lymphatic flow in your body to enhance immune function and metabolism, improve healing and eliminate toxins. Our lymphatic system plays an essential role in our body’s healing ability and immune function.  Performed before and after facial procedures, lymphatic massage can diminish swelling and bruising after surgery because circulation and metabolism are increased thereby encouraging and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself. This gentle manual massage can be extremely beneficial to clients who suffer from allergies, edema/swelling, stress, fatigue, headaches, or who have undergone recent surgery or injury.  We recommend lymphatic massages performed 7-8 days after surgery to minimize swelling and improve recovery time. This healing treatment is highly relaxing, producing a calming, healthful effect on the body. Before and after your lymphatic massage, it is important to drink plenty of water to continue the cleansing, healing process.

We invite you to schedule your lymphatic massage when scheduling your surgery with Dr. Bassichis.

Beautifully yours,

Drs. Michelle and Benjamin Bassichis

Absolutely – so please read on. When Latisse is correctly used, within 2-4 months of starting this medication you will have lush fabulous lashes. So how is this possible?

The medication in Latisse is and was first developed for glaucoma patients because it lowers the pressure in your eyes. Serendipitously, it was noted that one of the “side effects” noticed in the glaucoma patients was especially lush, long, thick, dark eyelashes. Brilliantly, the medicine was FDA approved and patented for this indication – and hello Latisse.

A recent study revealed excellent results and few side effects when Latisse was applied to the upper lashes with treated subjects showing increased eyelash length after 16 weeks of therapy. So again, yes the medication truly works but there are side effects to be aware of including possible inflammation and/or redness lasting days to weeks, eyelid skin discoloration, changes to the color (iris) of your eyes (potentially darkening), and of course, decreased eye pressure. Dr. Bassichis is one of the top prescribing physicians for this medication, but the key is to educate our patients to apply it correctly and safely. As such, the following are some words of advice.

With Latisse, it is going to take 2-4 months to see your result. So BE PATIENT. And remember LESS IS MORE. Apply only 1-2 drops on the applicator for each eye. More will not achieve better results, but will probably cause you more side effects. If you do have any problems or side effects, switch to every other night, contact your physician, or some people choose to stop the medication. If you cease by choice or because you run out, be calmed that your lovely lashes will not fall out just simply slowly revert to your pre-Latisse baseline. Also, remember the medication is FDA approved for upper eyelashes only. And most importantly, enjoy your long gorgeous lashes.

One additional note of caution: buying drugs online without a prescription can be risky, so make sure you go to a reputable pharmacist – because these are YOUR EYES we are talking about!

Beautifully yours,
Drs. Michelle and Benjamin Bassichis

Let’s face it. Time, heredity, gravity, and life in general all take a toll on our faces. While today’s medical advancements in health and nutrition are helping us feel young, we also want a face that looks and feels refreshed. Thanks to technological breakthroughs and surgical advancements, physical self-improvement is a safe, effective, and life-changing option that can quickly give any face the healthy boost it needs. A facelift is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the face by reestablishing support for underlying facial tissue and removing excess skin to achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance. In today’s image-conscious society, it’s no wonder that the facelift is one of the most desired surgical procedures.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT DOCTOR: FACIAL PLASTIC SURGEONS
When choosing the right surgeon for your facelift, experience and expertise are everything. Be certain your facelift surgeon specializes in aesthetic facial plastic surgeries and is board-certified in the area that you wish to have surgery. General plastic surgeons and facial plastic surgeons are required to complete specialty training in cosmetic facial surgery. Carefully look at your physician’s education to ensure that they are the best choice to operate on your face. The doctor should also have medical privileges at an accredited hospital or surgery center to perform your surgery; these medical institutions uphold strict, high standards for the doctors associated with the facility.
Dallas’ own double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Benjamin Bassichis, focuses exclusively on plastic and reconstructive surgeries of the face, neck, and head. A specialist in facial cosmetic surgery, Dr. Bassichis feels that it’s important to customize each surgery for each patient for natural, beautiful results. “My philosophy of facial rejuvenation and facelift surgery is not facial changing, but a restoration to enhance the ageless beauty of my patients,” Dr. Bassichis says. “I strive to turn back the hands of time and allow their own natural beauty to emerge.”
LONG-TERM RESULTS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
While facelifts of the past primarily pulled back the skin tightly back or upward, yielding an artificial-looking result, today’s advanced techniques create harmony and balance through judicious tightening combined with volume restoration, offering patients a natural-looking outcome.
For lasting results, avoid “lunchtime” facelifts and other quick-fix regimens. If you are seeking more than surface changes to your skin, only a proven surgical procedure will give you real, long-term results.
The best candidates for facelift surgery are nonsmoking, healthy individuals with good facial skin elasticity. Make sure to discuss all of your options, goals, risks, benefits, and reasons for considering facial plastic surgery with your surgeon before you decide on a particular procedure.

Beautifully yours,
Drs. Michelle and Benjamin Bassichis
